Well I must say that your blog is the best thing I have read in over a month. I am truly sorry for everything you had to go through with the modern medical community. I am actually a premed student who is pursuing a medical degree as a Doctor of Osteopathy, or D.O. D.O.s tend to be frowned upon by the M.D. community because we consider the patient as a whole instead treating the symptom and getting you out of our office, even using hollistic approaches rather than allopathic exclusively. Hopefully it gives you a little piece of mind (or HOPE) to know that there are doctors out there who care more about you as a whole instead of just treating your symptoms.

Well. Glad to see I'm not the only one visiting "Dr. Google" so I can quit screaming WHAT THE FUCK into the wind. Really, I was getting hoarse. Great info here, well written, and now I have more info in my back pocket. Thanks so much. :)

Your post was great! And entertaining, so length was not a negative :-)

Anyway... I think many more people go through all of this than people think. After years of sagging energy, gaining weight (and this on an organic diet of brown rice, veggies, some fish, etc, etc)... vertigo (at random times), freezing most of the time, swollen hands and feet most of the time... ringing in my ears... etc, etc, I finally ditched my doctor and went to a naturopathic Dr. Turns out my Dr. who ran tests on my thyroid (TSH), said that my 5.3 (now up to 5.7) was "within the normal range". Um... apparently she didn't know the range was lowered to 3.3 in 2003!!! A fact I found out spending about 5 minutes on Google.

I'm now getting into getting things repaired and am definitely optimistic... but I can't help be pissed as all hell that my symptoms and problems were completely ignored for so long. Especially since my mom had thyroid cancer (a fact I noted on all of my medical forms), so there is a HISTORY of thyroid issues!

Sigh.

Anyway... good luck with the protocol...good luck with the babies... and thanks for making me laugh!

An excellent post.

Luckily, with my own situation, which is very similar to yours, I finally took control of my own health, and opted out of the treatments they tried to give me including unnecessary surgery, medications, and steroid creams, for what ended up being a allergy/sensitivity to soy and now casein. Researching the casein connection led me to your site.

Working in the medical field for many years, I have seen how some doctors and treatments can be detrimental to a person's health as they just treat the symptoms and do not find the source of the problem. Hopefully as more people share their stories of taking charge of their own health, and healing through alternative means, the mainstream medical establishment will take notice.

Thanks for sharing your story as you were right on when you said, "But I can at least throw my words to the wind. And maybe, just maybe, someone, somewhere is feeling the same way, and won’t feel like they’re the only one sitting around going, “What the fuck?” --which is exactly how I had felt!

I have recently found out my child has food allergies, but amazingly at 44 I found out a big part of my problem. I have had fatigue, constant nasal congestion, sinusitis, reflux, persistant hoarseness for 8 years, mental fogginess and no one suggested it could be a food allergy. I am allergic to casein in milk and have found out through the web that if your body doesn't process it it turns into an opiate in the body, hence the lethargy as well as the addiction to it. Getting off was like coming off morphine. Headaches, mental fogginess and then the discovery that everything I eat and like is either ice cream, butter or cheese. I have lost 7 pounds in 10 days and I am not even trying. I have been on allergy meds, reflux meds and since getting off milk products have not taken either. It turns out that my year round and seasonal allergies are hardly noticable without milk in my diet. For the first time in my life I can breathe through my nose without sudafed. I am more than perturbed that the medical community let me and my child suffer while handing out the meds to mask the symptoms. I feel so much better that my daily ice cream fix does not even tempt me. Maybe I can also avoid esophageal cancer or osteoporosis from the reflux meds. I am about to do an elimination diet on the rest of the family because some of the other kids have ADD symptoms or intestinal distress.

what migraine preventive are you on that has actually worked? None have worked for me after about 4-6 months. I am now paying out-of -pocket for Botox shots in the migraine trigger-points and have far fewer migraines (I was having 2-4 a week). I hope your doctor(s) have told you to take Imitrex or one of the other Triptans like Relpax or Amerge (Imitrex is the best) right away, as soon as you feel the jumping eye. It is like a miracle, no pain pills, can even continue working, playing tennis etc. If you wait too long, the chemicals in your brain will take over, and Imitrex may not work.
I really laughed out loud reading your letter/blog, the 1st one I've ever read. You are a gifted humorist.
I'll forward your letter to my friend who seems to have the adrenal problem you mentioned. Maureen Linden

Maureen - Thanks for your note! I've been taking Topamax as a daily maintenance med for several years now, and it's working. I usually take Fioricet and Phenergan to combat the headaches when one actually breaks through, but it's rare enough (no more than two or three a year) I usually end up throwing out my prescription when it expires and getting a new one.

This blog post was ridiculously long, but it felt good to get it off my chest. And good luck to your friend with the adrenal issues. It's taken awhile, but with tons of supplements and a change in my diet, things are looking up! :-)

Enjoy the rest of your week! All the best, B~

I stumbled onto your blog while researching casein and was enlightened and relieved by your article. While my situation is not exactly the same, I too have had difficulties finding the solution to my problem (and often wonder if I am just crazy). After many tests and lots of medication I have turned to a more wholistic approach. Since I live in a small community my options are limited but I'm trying to find my way through research and the resources available. I wanted to share with you that while expensive, I have had some luck with acupuncture relieving fatigue and curbing some allergy symptoms. I know it's not for everyone but I find it helpful and very refreshing. Also I found a terrific yoga instructor that teaches what she calls "restorative yoga". I started five years ago while pregnant with my second child and still go once a week to due to the positive impact it has made on my body and my mind.

Anyway, thanks so much for your blog.

P.S. I loved your slide show! As a mother of two beautiful, yet destructive, young boys your slideshow was quite enjoyable and your twins are adorable.

I'm absolutely open to trying new things. As far as acupuncture goes, many of my friends have used it, loved it and swear by it. Not sure what my hesitation has been. And after years of allergy shots, etc., it's not even the idea of needles that bother me. And now that I think of it, I've never heard someone share a negative acupuncture experience. I should revisit the idea.

Our kids aren't quite to the destructive stage yet (for the most part), but I'm waiting, and starting to pack away the things I want to keep and don't expect to see for another 15 years. :-)

Thanks for your comment, and good luck to you and your family!

I have the same exact experience with "Jumpin’ Eyeballs." It happened to me more than twice, and I'm not even 30 years old. It usually happens on my left eye, the lower part, where it keeps on "beating" like it has its own heart!

The first time I had it, I consult with my mom, who's quite superticious. She said something bad might happen to me. But after having it several times, I realized it's all because of stress. But I never knew what to do with it, I always let it be until it goes away. Thanks for ice tips, it will help me a lot if it happens to me again!
